Ok burger was so good I had another Made fresh daily By made I mean, ground fresh in the store, hand pattied, 3 different sizes, 1/4, 1/3, &. 1/2 pounder. No frills, been here 40 years, local favorite

Well, what can I say, we ate here yesterday, the place looks like something right out of the 70s timewarp.. old tiling, booths and look... I like hole in the walls so we forged on even though there was only one other person in the whole joint. The burgers are super greasy and the cheese chili fries werent anything to write home about. We both ended up with upset stomachs and in the restroom several times throughout the night.... I think it was just too much grease, maybe you need an iron stomach to eat here...also the girl at the front counter was not very happy she had to take our order

We were in town for 1 1/2 weeks and ate here at least 3 times! The burgers are delish and so juicy... Fries are just fries nothing special. I really like The do-it-yourself condiments bar which is fully stocked with pickles, jalapenos, but you have to ask for and pay extra for lettuce and tomato. Unfortunately, The service keeps me from giving 5 stars. The girls seem totally uninterested in having anything to do with helping you! 1 of the 3 or 4 times we ate here they got out order wrong so that's not a bad ratio.... If only they would spare some smile muscles for goodness sake!! The free jukebox is so fun and holds tons of classic tunes. Overall, the burgers keep me coming back! Thank you old fashioned jack!

I give this 3 stars only because the staff (simply are there to just take orders and serve) sorry don't ever expect them to go the extra mile on anything. They do their job yes but they don't care too much about their customer service skills. I focus on just the food here and don't end up disappointed that way. The interior very old and ugly lol sorry it just is but again think about the food. The BURGERS are what you come here for and honestly I think they are the best ones I ever have. If you want a classic hamburger made when you order and not seasoned with whole bunch of nonsense come here. Fries are good too in my opinion. This place is worth the drive because the burgers are really that good. A little odd how they serve you the lettuce and tomato in a ziploc bag but hey least it isn't all soggy on your burger and mess up their bun. Well done Jack

What to say, what to say. I don't like giving negative reviews. I really don't. The burger was a good portion size. Good value for amount you received. It tasted good BUT it was too greasy for my taste. It just didn't grab me. Nothing to write home about. It wasn't bad it just wasn't great or outstanding. The bad thing was that it didn't have good consistency. I was almost not together meaning just about falling apart. Barely held together. Should be packed together a little firmer. Reminded me of a quarter pounder from that fast good place Mc whatever. You know who I'm talking about. Also good that they grind their own blend. It was a fresh burger. Also wanted to add quick service and friendly staff.

Went to jacks today around 12:45, had the 1/2 cheeseburger and a side of fries. I took takeout. When I got home the cheeseburger was completely raw on the inside. I called the restaurant to see what they had to say. The only thing they could do for me is recook my food if I came in the same day. That would be no problem if I didn't live 25 minutes away and can only get there about 1-2 times a month. Guess my dog is going to get a good meal. They offered me a $10 gift card as well, but it's not worth it in the amount of gas and time I would spend getting there.

It's a Fort Lauderdale staple. Take the time to stop by, you won't be disappointed. Burger, fries, and a shake, are definitely the way to go.

I live in west Broward and every time I go east I always make it to Jack's. They have the BEST burger in town. Ground daily, fresh, cooked they way you like it and made like you made it at home but without the mess. Sometimes it's a little out of round, once in a while looks like it got torn in half or a finger went through it and patched... just like it happens at home. Great prices, great toppings, and the BEST hamburger in the county.

Solid burgers and fries. Will defiently come back again. Great burger meat and awesome shakes. Plenty of parking and friendly staff.

My boyfriend looked up burger places in town, and found this place, since it has such great reviews; I stopped by to pick up his order, which was done by phone. He ordered their Big Jack 1/2 pound cheeseburger and one order of fries. When I walked in to pick up the food, I told the girl at the counter my name, and she retrieved the food. I asked her for ketchup, and she pointed to the self-serve area. Why when I looked down into the bag of fries, did it look as if half of them were already eaten? I thought about asking if that was the amount normally given, but I walked out without saying a word, and a little upset. I got into the car, and immediately called my boyfriend up, to tell him about it. They also charge extra for toppings, including burger staples such as lettuce and tomato. For the $6.95 they charge for a cheeseburger, you'd think certain toppings are already included. This was the first time trying this place, and it's definitely the last. I felt totally ripped off.

The place is very original, very clean, cool vibes. The burgers are ok, I had the Big Jack cheesburger with bacon and I was a bit disapointed, the bacon was very thin and the cheese was on the bottom. The patty was quite big but it was significantly lacking of seasoning, didn't tasted much of anything. The fries don't have anything special at all, they look like regular frozen fries bought at Costco.

  • Scott R.

Burger meat was excellent! That was about it. Up charges for EVERYTHING! Even lettuce! Which came in a zip lock Baggie. Weird. I didn't really enjoy my experience.

    (3)
  • Basil S.

They cook the burger to perfection. The meat is fresh ground daily. I am unsure their meat source but they make some dang good burgers. In addition to their burgers, their Jacks sauce is top notch. The perfect mixture. Very simple ingredients with a great tasting product and local south Florida atmosphere. Get the big jacks burger with some jacks sauce on it. You won't regret it.

Mission accomplished! I FINALLY made it in to Jack's to try one of their famous classic cheeseburgers and fries. Delicious. Cooked to order, greased up and served naked, I couldn't wait to grab the condiments and take my meat home. Ketchup, mayo, pickles, jalapenos, tartar sauce (?), and onion accessorize the counter where the napkins and straws are found. Note lettuce/tomato/etc. available upon request. Play a song on the Juke Box while you wait, and dance in the dining room if you're in the mood dude. French fries were hot and yummy as well...and not too salty. Hot dogs are on the menu. It was nice meeting you Jack. I'll definitely be back!

I used to love Jacks but not anymore. I got so sick at this location. The night I went, young kids running the place. Rude, and totally lacking of customer service skills. With new burger joints opening up every day, I don't intend on going back to Jacks. It's unfortunate, because I was a big fan. But my last experience there ruined it for me.

Great place for burgers fries and shakes. Service is great, clean and friendly. We get burgers from her all of the time. Always fresh

Good burger. Place has been there forever. Place is old and could use a face lift or at least a good cleaning.

Jack's is a must to visit! All their food is delicious, especially the burgers. Fries are thicker, shakes are delicious. Staff is friendly and atmoshphere is fun. They have a free juke box you can be the dj with as well.

  • Brad W.

A great, standard burger at a reasonable price. Always clean, staff is always nice, place is true "Old School". If you want truffle oil and soy cheese on a lean, free range, organic Kobe burger for this is not your place.

  • Jennifer P.

Jack's was awesome! We were in Florida for a week and ate there twice. Burgers were the perfect light pink, done but not overcooked. My girls and I ate both ate WAY more than normal and my husband more than one burger when we were there. We loved the old time look and feel of Jack's. The jukebox was a great touch! Def will go back if we come back to this area.

  • Keith D.

The burgers here are simply good. Not crazy good, but good. The nostalgia of the place is kind of neat, and probably the main reason for the notoriety. I've easily had 20 burgers at joints around Chicago, Detroit, and numerous other places in the Midwest that are better. Again, it's not bad, it's just sort of average. Probably a great place if you're intoxicated and it's 3am.

Its claim to fame is that its meat is never frozen. And, at Jack's Old Fashion Hamburger stand, this is what separates this place from a lot of the other burger joints. The menu is very simple and is focused on the hamburger. On this visit, and on prior visits, I typically order the 1/3-pound burger because Jack's does a much better job of cooking the meat more thoroughly. The 1/2-pound burger has had a little too much red in the middle for my liking, which others burger-loving fans may not object to. Jack's is set up for you to top your burger with condiments, onions and pickles, etc. I would recommend also topping your burger with some salt and pepper to add a little seasoning to it. The burger that is prepared for you is very juicy, but lacks an adequate touch of seasoning. Love the fries. They are always very hot and lightly browned. And, if you have enough wherewithal to include an ice cream shake with your meal, I would highly recommend it. Jack's vanilla shake is so good. If you eat at this Jack's, it has an old jukebox, which plays only 50's songs, and sets the tone for this 'Ol' Fashioned' burger stand. Jack's has a large lunch-time crowd during the work week, and includes a large number of senior citizens from the nearby retirement community, who also frequent this place. My recommendation is to arrive after 1 p.m. for faster service.

Love the burgers and their milkshakes!!! Cooked fresh to order. Fries could use a little seasoning but not a reason to stop eating here.

  • Bill S.

I gave Jack's a 5 Star rating because they deserve it. There are only two locations - this one and the other on Federal Highway just north of Oakland Park Blvd. They have been serving juicy hamburgers perfectly cooked in this same location for about 30 years. The fries are crispy and thin. They offer free refills on sodas and the milkshakes are great. Five guys and In-n-Out can't match this place for burgers. Unfortunately, they don't take American Express cards.

  • Ken W.

Not sure what the hype is... The meat didn't taste so fresh . They put the lettuce and tomato is a plastic bag ? The cheese on cheese fries was a blob of I'm not sure .. Fries were also no good .

    (1)
  • Kyle G.

The burgers here are in my opinion the best in south florida. The staff is very friendly and it is very clean inside. They have the burgers made very fast and the meat is extremely fresh and juicy.

    (5)
  • Isaac H.

Oh jacks... The one place where they know how to make a real burger! All the meat is freshly grounded and cooked on an old fashioned grill. It's definitely not a little vegan burger, this thing is a MONSTER. Wet and perfectly greasy. I get the 1/2 pounder cheeseburger and put on their yummy yellow concoction. For the price, it's impossible to beat #longlivejacks

    * I've been at this location plenty of times and as a matter of fact was a regular patron here before stopping by their other location on Federal Highway. Though the food as well as the service are identical at both, I prefer this Pompano location since the décor, the ambiance and general 1950's type of feeling along with its old juke box make for more pleasant as well as less rushed dinning experience. * This Jack's, as with the one on Federal, are both neighborhood legends, a favorite for the locals to get a quick burger and a general hang out. The burgers are made of fresh meat, ground up on the premises daily, without any left over frozen junk. Every burger I've had has been done precisely the way I've ordered it, which is rare, and I enjoy being able to add my own relish, ketchup, mustard, onions, pickles or other condiments in exact the proportions suitable to my preferences from the condiment bar. It's fast food, so the service is quick. You just go to the counter, place your order, are handed a receipt with a number and wait for your number to be called out. For drinks, you get your cup filled but there is no self service fountain for refills. The service persons generally appear to be high school types, but polite, friendly and efficient about what they are doing. When I need a quick burger, Jack's either on Federal or this one located on South Cypress in Pompano, is where I always go.

Best hamburgers in south florida. If you want a fresh, tasty burger, this is the place for you. Bar none the best.

  • Ellen Y.

It was a mistake for me to get the 1/2 pounder, only because I forced myself to eat the entire thing. Best burger I've tried yet in S. Florida. Was a big fan of 5 guys, till I tried this place. The meat was very fresh, and I devoured every last morsel. The horseradish sauce that they put out by the condiments rocked!

Yummy! I just love typing the word yummy...LOL. Interesting to read the reviews of Jacks. Before Five Guys, before Burger Fi, before Elevation Burger and countless others there was Jacks. No fuss, no BS 2 store mom and pop burger chain that I LOVE. You say greasy, I say juicy. I love the half pounder with extra cheese and when you take a bite you know you are eating a nice juicy burger not some hockey puck imitation. From the little condiment station, I love to put alittle ketchup, mustard, some of the chili salsa stuff ( not sure what it is), and some chopped onions on my cheese burger. Just good stuff. I never had anything else on the menu except the milkshakes and fries which are also good. One of these days I'll sample something else, but if I walked inside Jacks and didn't eat a burger I would feel like I committed a sin and I'm not even religious. lol. By the way, you can order raw burgers to cook at home. It took me 30 plus years to know that so I figured I would share that information with you. For 6 1/2 pounders with buns will cost you around 18 bucks and change. Just Yummy.....see I typed it again..LOL YUMMY Whoo Hooo! Remember to tell them Dan sent you and Stay Hungry!

THEY CHANGED THE MEAT! I was a faithful Jack follower for 4 years until Fall of 2011. When you eat something so frequently you know exactly what you are getting. One afternoon, I stopped in for my usual take out order and got home within a few minutes to settle in to my quick, easy and consistently delicious meal. ONE BITE AND I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG. I could tell right off the bat that the consistency and juiciness that I had come to associate with a Jack's burger was GONE. I took another bite to be sure and was convinced that something had changed. I simply had to get on the phone and speak with someone, so I did. The first person who picked up was one of the younger girls you can typically see at the joint and I asked her for the manager who wasn't there at the time. This was a blessing in disguise because I asked her, point blank, "Is something different with your burgers?" She answered me truthfully and immediately and said that yes, they had recently changed to a "leaner cut." What a disappointment. What more could be said? I thanked her for being honest and hung up. They could keep my $10, but it would be the last one. In my opinion, when you've got something that has worked for almost 30 years, you simply don't make changes that drastic. I'm truly not sure why they did and I'm not sure if it has cost them business, but I have to imagine that other Jack Faithfuls noticed and I hope someone was able to get to the bottom of it. I haven't gone back since.

Burger wars: this guy is better, no this guy is better, whatareyacrazy this guy is the best. Let's set that all aside and get real. Jack's is the best faster food burger. Yes there are the big juicy Le Tub lovers, of which I am one, but you will never get it as fast as Jack's. Le Tub is an experience. Jack's is a good, quick, wonderful little burger you can order and eat without the fuss of a burger joint. It's just a damn good burger, ready when you want it. And in their genre of burger wars, they are the champs.

  • Danny H.

Jack's is what i now compare all burgers to... :( To love this place, you have to apreciate freshness and quality of meat over toppings and condaments... simple.. you go there... you have the 1/2lbs pound cheeseburger... (dont add the tomato and lettuce...takes away from the flavour of the meat) I just add some of their yellow sauce (no clue whats in it..it just works) and some hallapenos and horse radish.. THATS IT! 1/2lbs burger seems like a lot.. even if im not hungry, I get the 1/2lbs one.. at that thickness its always cooked perfectly.. juicy.. just right! They should work on the rest of their items....the hot dogs are not great and not a fan of their chilli... fries are just ok.. but who cares??? GO THERE FOR THE BURGER!

I been going to Jack's Hamburger since I can even remember, must be over 20 years! This place is by far the best hamburger in Florida and even in the country! This juicy hamburger with white american cheese is simple but the best! With 2 locations in south florida this is a MUST for anyone looking for a good burger or even good anything to eat!

Jack's is a classic, old-school burger joint. Perfect if you're in the mood for a tasty - yet greasy, I will admit - burger. Also, if you have a hangover as others have mentioned, a Jack's hamburger and fries will kill it I can almost guarantee. I used to live fairly close to the Lauderdale location on Federal and can confirm that from experience. This location is in Pompano, but it's been around almost as long as the original and the food and service is pretty much the same at both. I think both restaurants date back to the early 70s, which is actually pretty old for a restaurant in Broward. You get the feeling the menu and food at Jack's hasn't changed much over the years. One thing I did notice today when I stopped in for the first time in about a year was that they now take credit cards! No more "cash only" or stopping at the ATM before Jack's. I might come here more often now. The place is always packed for lunch, and for good reason. The person taking your order will probably either be a senior citizen or a 16 year old high school kid. They are not overly friendly, but they get the orders in and out FAST and you won't wait in line very long. I suggest getting the 1/3 pound burger as the 1/2 pound is huge and the 1/4 is not that big. I love how you get your lettuce and tomato in a ziploc bag. I would rather put it on myself so I can judge how much lettuce I want and position it correctly. Some people might consider this an inconvenience but I don't. And please, complaining about how they charge extra for lettuce and tomato? It's 45 cents, you cheapskate! Jack's fries are equally greasy and tasty. I thought this on my way out today, Jack's is probably what Wendy's or Whataburger used to be like back in the 60s or 70s when they first opened - if they never became a national chain or expanded the menu. You know what you're getting at Jack's - a greasy hamburger and fries, but there's something comforting about that in my opinion.

Love the burgers but the interior is dated and this could be to some what the charm is. I do hate the styrofoam cups. I had a 1/3 lb burger with sauteed mushrooms and onions, fries and a medium drink all for about $10.00. I was stuffed. Very good burger!

  • Eric T.

Bomb ass burgers! Jacks is solid, always scratches my itch for a good burger

Get plenty of napkins for those pretty damn good fresh juicy burgers!

Average at best. Burgers are EXTREMELY greasy. The burgers and fries were flavorless. I wouldn't come back here.

    (2)
  • Sarah P.

Best burgers ever! No frills good old fashioned burger joint. I have been coming here for more than 20 years and the burgers have always been great! They use fresh ingredients and ground their meat on site. The fries and milkshakes are also old fashioned style and soooo good!

  • Lady P.

This place is hilarious, it's like something out of a John Waters movie. Unflattering lighting. Brown and yellow decor. Oldies on the radio. AC blasting. The place is a morgue until 6 pm, then they come piling in. The customers range from hip hop kids, families, really heavy people, a single geriatric dandy in tight khaki shorts and little old people with walkers. LOTS of old folks, as a matter of fact, all shuffling about in pink track suits and soft yellow acrylic button downs. So you go in, go up to the counter, get greeted by a smiling teenager, and order your burger, drink and fries. It's nice the burgers come in 3 sizes, so I got the smallest one, which apparently is all I needed. They have milkshakes and standard soft drinks. You sit down, they call your number, you get your food. All the fixin's are there for you at the counter. Mustard, ketchup, pickles, onion, horseradish, hot sauce, etc. Then you sit at the 1950's style bench tables and look at Norman Rockwell prints. And tap your toes to do-wop. And watch cute little old people with shaky hands try to manage their way around giant, slippery hamburgers. Then you try to eat. Oh god. The burger is a slimy freaking mess and you can barely hold it. It wants to run away in a river of grease. And.....isn't it kind of too pink? Hmm. I hope they cooked it long enough, you think to yourself. But it's good, so you eat it anyway. And the fries too, which are flacid, limp and tasteless. But you combat that with yellow mustard, ketchup and merciless douses of hot sauce. And then you have a sip of your chocolate milkshake, which comes in a cheap styrofoam cup, and tastes like melted soft serve with syrup in it. Then you leave. And you feel.......queasy. A little sick to your stomach. And pretty sure you won't be going back until you are disgustingly hung over and you need a wet ball of cow grease to make you feel better. The strange surreal charm of the place and friendly service give it 3 stars....but honestly, the best burger out there is Le Tub.

This place has been around for 40 years and has a very loyal local following. I remember my first experience being a bit better than the most recent, so perhaps Autumn P has a point about change. If it ain't broke...

  • Jeremy Q.

I heard so much about this place and since I like a good burger I went to check it out. Long story short, this place is way overrated. The burger was OK, fries were just OK and shake was just OK. Tastes like you could make it all at home with no skills or secrets.

    (2)
  • Monika K.

grease central my sister and bf drag me to. plain jane flavorless meat patty, no choice in cheeses, charge extra for lettuce and tomato (wtf?) nothing special about the papas fritas either. not cheap either. next time I am putting my foot down and choosing a different place damnit!

  • Gregory N.

Jack's is the best place in South Florida to go for hamburgers! They don't have any fancy commercials or ads, no hype, the building is modest and old fashioned and this location is even a bit hard to find. What you will get is the tastiest and freshest hamburger anywhere! The burgers come in three sizes, and since I live in Miami and don't get up here much, I always go with the biggest one (I think it's 1/2 pound). You can get cheese on it, but other than that you put your own fixin's on at the condiment bar. I love that critical step in burger preparation, because I can put on the proper amount of ketchup, mustard and pickles according to my unfailing eyeball gauge. They have a bunch of other stuff there like onions, relish and what not. The fries are always hot and fresh, and reliably tasty. No cajun spices or sweet potatoe fries, just regular good fries. They do not skimp on the fries, if you order the large burger, the fries come in a separate basket. How's that for indulgence? They might have other stuff on the menu if you don't want a burger, but I haven't noticed. I always come for the burger, and so should you!

Been here a few times, hamburgers are always fresh not frozen. I usually get the chili cheese dog and it is great. Good old fashioned hamburger joint!

  • Dustyn S.

I've been coming to Jack's for the past 8 years or so... its a Ft. Laud staple and a must have! Its not a chain, its a one of a kind burger joint that has remained consistent longer than other places have even stayed in business! Not a huge fan of the veggies in the zip-lock bag, but I guess its their thing, so I can get on board for Jack's...

    (4)
  • Cherine A.

Mmmm, Jack's... this place brings back some great high school memories. It was our go-to place whenever our chorus had off-campus trips. I don't eat here often because the burgers ARE quite greasy... but they are oh-so good. It's a special treat now, instead of a regular indulgence. They grind the meat fresh daily. The fries are your regular run-of-the-mill fries... not amazing, but not bad either. And the shakes are delish.

Flipping burgers for forty years. Good old fashioned burger joint . It's got an old school quality, with no fuss. Casual. And the burgers were wonderful.

Excellent burgers. High quality & done right. One of the best burgers around. Hasn't changed since we've been eating there.

  • Paulo C.

Kinda went in with high expectations having heard the name of the restaurant before and the 4 star rating here on yelp. The best thing is definitely the beef. Beyond that, the ambiance is extremely casual, overpriced and extra veggies came in a ziplock? Come on. You will be paying $12 for a meal and I could do a better job.

  • Holly S.

Jacks is a casual dining establishment where you order at the counter and seat yourself (or take to go). They make the burgers with the toppings you chose and they also have a condiment bar. I ordered a 1/4 cheeseburger and fries. Burger was juicy, fries were crispy and I wouldn't consider either to be greasy. The service was pretty quick as well (this was a Saturday around 1:30). The place itself is not fancy by any means however it has a comfortable feel about it. This is a much better option to fast food burger if your want to do takeout but don't want the chain restaurant (low) quality. I will definitely stop by again!

    (5)
  • Jack D.

Time to upgrade this place. It's too expensive for burgers that are just okay. Perhaps if you grew up in South Florida it's a part of the fiber, but I'm not and there's a glut of burger joints these days.

    (2)
  • Jessica D.

Very good burgers fries and floats/shakes. When you pull up to this burger joint you are automatically transported back to 1978. Same thing when you walk inside. The decor is so 70's. They have a very simple menu. I ordered 2 1/2 pounders (1 to take home) fries and a coke float. I do find it strange that they charge extra for lettuce and tomato and it comes in a plastic baggy. Then they have the condiment station. My only complaint is that the onions are diced and easily fall off the burger. They should serve whole sliced onions instead. That would compliment the lettuce and tomato. The burger itself is a good size and it's juicy which is a good thing. The fries are average nothing special and my coke float was delicious. Served in a styrafoam cup they don't pretend to be anything their not, lol No pretentious people here!! Just your average locals and elderly people which is cool. Come to jacks for the experience and the burgers.

Not as good as it used to be. The hamburger meat isn't the same. This place has gone down hill.

Classic. I'm a sucker for burgers on all counts, but this place sets the bar for a no frills, all taste, quality patty. The ambiance is old and simple, reminiscent of a time when kale wasn't a standard menu item and food was cooked, not created, crafted, or infused. Enjoy the tunes from the free play jukebox and for the love of burgers, relax. You'll love it here.

I moved to Boca from Orlando and both there and here I have been a fan of 5 Guys. Had heard people bragging about how great Jack's was, so, since I was in the area, I stopped in and tried it. Was not impressed with the exterior or the interior... as for ordering, the kids behind the bar need to learn some manners... no, a lot of manners. Not everyone walking through the door has been coming there for years or decades. The only greeting I got was, what do you want... Really! No suggestions or explanations... I would give the burger a 2 at best and that's being generous. The fries left everything to be desired... I will never go there again... I'm a 5 Guys man all the way!

The hamburger is okay. Sometimes it's a little too greasy for me but it is okay. What is not okay is that you have to pay extra for fries and even lettuce and tomato on your burger. To me this is totally unacceptable and I will never give this joint one more penny of my money. In this day and age I can't believe at burgers alone for $6.95 they are too cheap to provide lettuce and tomato.

Awesome place! The fries are crisp, delicious and fresh. Amazing flavor of burgers, great selection of toppings, including mushrooms, and delicious buns. Great drink selection too! Pellet ice, Coke, Cherry Coke, Barq's and fresh brewed iced tea! Jukebox playing fun oldies, great atmosphere and you can't beat the price!
